Daily devotion – Its the work of God
It is a work of God!
As I continue to study the Scriptures, having now preached through the Bible several times in the past 43 plus years, I am learning more and more about the sovereign work of God in our lives.
We have become a people obsessed with procedures, processes, and structures. Nothing wrong with such things in their place. However, God does not work through such as we read His blessed word. We discovered once again on Wednesday night as we began our series in Mark’s Gospel that the Gospel is not:
A mystery to be unravelled:
A philosophy to comprehend
A perspective to adopt
A set of life principles to apply
No, we learnt that the Gospel is a Person – Jesus Christ, the Son of God!
Maybe you are struggling in your walk with God today. You have read the latest Christian publication telling you how to have a victorious Christian walk. You have followed the study plan that accompanied the study book. You have put into action the steps it advises you to adhere to each day. But….things are still the same.
The answer is the Gospel is a Person not a process.
What we each need is a living relationship with Jesus Christ our Saviour. Where we talk with Him, share our fears with Him, ask Him for help, every moment of the day we face crisis.
In other words, it’s the Spirit of God moving in and through your life each day.
We are always looking for a short cut, an easier option. Many marriages crumple after a short period because the couple have ceased a true relationship. Their lives now, including their marriage has become a process, a ritual, a set of principles.
But grace and forgiveness are never found in any of these!
Today, bow your heart, open your Bible and spend time with He who died on the Cross for you – allow Him to speak to you, to comfort you and for you to grow to know Him.
Then you will see and experience the true reality of what it is to walk with God.
This is why Paul would write and pray – Ephesians 1: I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him.
