Daily devotion – boasting

Pastor Keith   -

Galatians 6:14
But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

The Paris Olympics have come to an end and there has been a list of new medal winners and a large number of athletes who after all their training and discipline will leave Paris with nothing except the honour of being an Olympic athlete.

For a short period of time the name of the gold medal winners dominated the news. But in a few weeks their names will become less newsworthy to a fickle world with a short memory.

But there were a number of athletes who seized the moment of their worldly glory to proclaim the glory of their achievement to God. They recognised as believers that all their talent and capacity to be the best in their field was due to Gods blessing in their lives.

For me these individuals will carry their moment of honour into eternity where the others will be short lived and disappear into oblivion.

James tells us that very good gift we have been given has come from God the Father of lights – James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

If we are ever going to boast, let us make sure our boast is about the wonder and glory of our amazing God.
