Daily devotion – worship this Sunday

Pastor Keith   -

This Sunday, once again, the Lord God Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, graciously gives us the privilege to gather before Him in worship. We come before Him with our families, not because we seek Him to fix something in our lives, but because He alone is worthy of all praise, honour, and glory.

In Isaiah 6, the prophet Isaiah was given a majestic vision of the throne of God:
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!’ And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.” (Isaiah 6:1-4)

This passage reveals the glory and majesty of God’s throne, where seraphim continually proclaim, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” Their cries echo throughout Heaven, focusing solely on God’s holiness and splendour.

Unfortunately, in many churches today, there has been a paradigm shift where the focus of worship has become man-centered rather than God-centered. Worship has become a performance, often more about the congregation’s emotions and preferences. However, the true purpose of worship is to be centered on God alone. Our feelings and emotions are not the measure of genuine worship; the focus is on the One we worship— the Lord God Almighty!

We come before Him not because of our own worthiness, but by grace, through the saving work of His Son Jesus Christ on the Cross. This should fill our hearts with thanksgiving, praise, and humility for all He has done. Worshiping God is not about how we feel in the moment but about giving Him the glory He deserves.

As you prepare for church this Sunday, I encourage you to read Isaiah 6. Let this passage guide your heart in how to worship the Holy God. Whether you’ve had a difficult week or are enduring a storm in your life, remember that God is always worthy of your praise, regardless of your circumstances. Our emotions may fluctuate, but God’s worthiness never changes.

2 Samuel 22:4 says, “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;” and Psalm 7:17 declares, “I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.”

When we come with the right attitude, our worship will be a source of joy and wonder to us and a sweet-smelling incense to our Heavenly Father. For He is always, and forever will be, worthy of all our praise!
