Daily devotion – the ear of a Father
Exodus3: 7 And the LORD said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. 8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. 9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.
As I read this beautiful passage in Exodus, my heart believes that right now since October 7, the children of Israel have been crying out once again to God.
A parent, a grandparent can be in the middle of a noisy gathering of people and yet when one of their own children or grandchildren is hurt or crying, they hear intuitively this cry above all other noises! It’s the cry that identifies that one of your own is in need and such a cry immediately triggers the hearer to come to their rescue.
The children of Israel we are told by Moses here in this passage cried unto Heaven and who was it that heard their cries. No other nation, no false gods, no one else but their Heavenly Father who had created them and loved them as the ‘apple of His eye’.
When you call out to God in your desperation and you are His child, His ears hear your cry above all the noise of 8 ½ other billion people on this planet! For you are His and He gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to die for you so that you would know how great His love is for you.
The personal nature of God’s love is evident: He doesn’t just hear in a general sense—He hears you. Your cries of distress are precious to Him because of the relationship you have through Christ. Just as He delivered the Israelites from the hands of their oppressors, He is mighty to save and rescue you today.
This week, as you call upon God, be assured that He hears. Just as He responded to Israel’s cries, He will answer in His perfect time and way. Rest in the truth that His love is not passive—it moves, it acts, and it delivers. Trust that God is aware of your sorrows and stands ready to bring you into the fullness of His promises.
May we all be encouraged to cry out to Him, knowing that He is faithful to hear and respond.
This week, cry out to God, call upon Him and He will hear your voice, your cry of distress and just like He did with the Children of Israel in Egypt, He will come and rescue you!
