Why Jesus Came – Part 3

This week at Calvary
It’s just 18 days until we celebrate Christmas and the blessed birth of our Saviour. Be sure to invite family and friends out for our special Christmas Eve service here commencing at 6:00pm Tuesday 24th. We also ask for you to pray for this time as well for God’s blessing as we gather in His name. Next Sunday is our Baptism service at 1:30pm at Palm Beach Rockingham. If you are part of the baptism service, there is a teaching class for you to attend that Sunday morning, so you are well prepared for your baptism. Calvary Kids and Calvary Youth had their last gatherings last Friday now until 2025. The Calvary Ladies had a wonderful end of year celebration here yesterday and a special thanks to all the ladies who prepared and served to make the day a blessing for so many! We invite you to join with us each Sunday before the service to pray for our services that day. In addition, with Christmas just around the corner, what better way to see God’s blessing over your family’s Christmas than to have prayed for it? Each Wednesday evening, we gather here at the Church with Bible study at 7 (Why Jesus Came – Series) followed at 7:30 with intercessory prayer. If you would like prayer for sickness join with us on Wednesday and the Elders will anoint you with oil and pray the prayer of faith over you. Keep your eyes on the events unveiling in Syria with Al-Qaida jihadists making a move on the capital. On our home soil the firebombing of the synagogue in Melbourne tells us that 2025 in Australia will be like no other we have experienced. A massive earthquake in California, magnitude 7 on the Richter scale, is concerning!

Helen’s Heart
To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassing great revelations there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me – 2 Cor 12:7 NIV With this weather of much rain and days of sunshine, I have a late unexpected bloom of rose. As I pick their flowers and continue to prune for winter, I often snag my fingers on the thorns and wonder why these are necessary on such a beautiful plant. They are there to protect the flower. So too God allows thorns in our lives to keep our feet on the ground, to protect us from pride and self-sufficiency. As we accept these ‘thorns’ and look to Him, as with Paul we too will find His grace is sufficient, thus we can bloom in the place God has us.

Pastor’s Pen
Act 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” This Christmas we have sent our Christmas shoe boxes overseas again as in previous years. That could be considered out witness to the end of the earth wherever these gift boxes end up landing. But today I would like you to consider our Jerusalem. That is our own neighbourhoods. Pray and give some thought to dropping a Christmas gift to those in your street, perhaps to the 2 or three houses opposite you or the 2 or 3 houses next to you. It’s not the value of the gift or its size, it’s just a way of dropping your faith and love of Christ this Christmas in action! It may even be anonymous, but it is definitely to have been wrapped in prayer before hand. If you take up this mission, be sure to pray over your gifts asking God to open the door to the heart of your nearest neighbour. To also bring the presence of God to their family and to their home. In some cases, this gift wrapped in Christ’s love and bathed in prayer might just be and answer to a prayer in that home, a sign from God telling them He loves them.
