Devotional – God’s voice in time of need.
Hearing God’s Still Small Voice
1 Kings 19:11-12
“Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.”
There’s something extraordinary about how the Lord ministers to us in our moments of need. Like Elijah on the mountain, we often expect God to show up in grand, unmistakable displays of power, but He often chooses to speak in a gentle, still small voice.
During a recent Sunday morning worship, as I sought God’s direction and help before preaching, I was reminded of this truth. How often do we miss or fail to acknowledge His subtle voice? Yet, God faithfully meets us, even in our frailty, showing His compassion and care for us.
Psalm 103:14 reminds us: “For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.” What a comforting truth—God knows our weaknesses and is ready to provide His strength and guidance when we call on Him.
Consider Nehemiah, the cupbearer to King Artaxerxes. When asked a sudden and critical question by the king, Nehemiah paused and silently prayed to the God of heaven (Nehemiah 2:4). In that brief moment of prayer, God gave him the wisdom and courage to respond with confidence.
In the same way, God is always present to hear and answer our cries for help. Whether in a moment of fear, uncertainty, or when we feel overwhelmed, His Spirit is ready to guide us.
This week, take comfort in knowing that your Lord is with you, always by your side. In moments of doubt, confusion, or need, call out to Him. Whether in a prayer whispered in your heart or in a desperate cry, trust that He hears you.
He is faithful. He will never let you down.
