Daily devotion – itchings ears…in these Last Days
2Ti 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
The Church today of Jesus Christ, thrives on the shared certainties regarding Christ and the Scriptures that mediate knowledge of God to them. That is the solid teaching through and of the Bible. But Paul tells us there would come a time when people would not want this.
Instead than crave what is best for them – 1Pe 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, – there would be people in the Last Days who would look for those who would give them ‘their own desires’.
Splinter groups abound today, proclaiming ‘new truth’ that which the Church of Jesus Christ is ‘unaware of ‘ and such gatherings are a magnet to those who will by choice not endure sound doctrine! Its rampant today.
But just like all cults, such groups only gain more attendees by luring folk away from Churches with promises of ‘new revelation’.
Church is never for self- gratification and Paul’s words are a reminder that such itching ear fascinations are nothing new.
The importance of an open Bible in your hands whenever listening to teaching cannot be over emphasised. Is what being taught matching with what has been written?
Act 17:11
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Lastly, Paul wrote some powerful words of warning to the Church in Galatia of what God would do to anyone who preached other than the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ – Gal 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!
Gal 1:9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!
