Honouring God with Our Bodies

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

In a world that promotes self-indulgence and personal freedom, the Bible calls us to a higher standard—one that recognises our bodies as sacred. In 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, Paul reminds believers that while “everything is permissible,” not everything is beneficial. Just because we can do something doesn’t mean we should.

Our culture often tells us that our bodies are our own, to do with as we please. But as Christians, we understand a deeper truth—our bodies belong to God. Paul makes it clear that we were “bought at a price” and that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. This changes everything. It means that how we treat our bodies, what we do with them, and how we respect them all reflect our relationship with God.

This passage particularly speaks to the importance of sexual purity. Paul warns against sexual immorality because it is a sin that affects us deeply—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Unlike other sins that happen outside the body, sexual sin directly impacts our own being. That’s why God calls us to flee from it, not just resist it.

As believers, we have an incredible privilege and responsibility. Our bodies are not just temporary vessels but are meant to glorify God rather than gratify our appetites. When we choose to honour Him with our bodies—through purity, self-control, and a commitment to holiness—we live out our faith in a way that speaks louder than words.

How are you honouring God with your body today?
