Daily devotion – Does it get easier?

Does the Christian Witness Ever Get Easier?
In my working life, I have encountered many who mocked my love for Christ—colleagues eager to argue about God, bosses antagonistic toward my faith, and environments where being a Christian felt like standing alone in a storm.

At first, I thought these battles would lessen over time. That as I matured in faith, the opposition would fade. I even assumed pastoring would be the same—facing the hardest trials only in the early years.

But Scripture tells us otherwise. Jesus Himself said:

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
—John 16:33

The battle remains because we have an enemy. The Bible warns:

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
—1 Peter 5:8

For example, since 2000, I have served as a chaplain with the Fremantle Football Club. Each week, I step into the world of professional sports—a place where faith is often sidelined. I am the only light and the only salt in that environment, relying on God to guide my words and open doors for conversations.

Even after all these years, it has never become easier.

Maybe this week, you feel like the Apostle Paul once did:

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.”
—2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Notice Paul’s words—troubled but not distressed, perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not forsaken, cast down but not destroyed.

Living for Christ in a fallen world will always be challenging. But take heart! We do make a difference. Even when our impact isn’t immediately visible, we are planting seeds for eternity.

If you feel weary from the battle, go to the Lord. Let His Word refresh you, let His Spirit strengthen you, and remember: Satan cannot defeat you—he has already lost the war.

Keep going! Your light is needed more than ever.
