Prayer for the church
Once the service has commenced, especially during the teaching of God’s Word, we ask that you remain seated so not to be a distraction to others. Should you need to move the Ushers on your return will direct you to a seat at the rear of the sanctuary.
What’s On This Week –
Welcome to Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour!
We’re so glad you’ve joined us today. If you would like prayer or want to know how to become a Christian, our pastors will be available straight after the teaching this morning and evening to pray with you and speak with you.
Tonight at 6:00pm
Pastor Israel continues his series in 1 Corinthians, beginning a powerful look at the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they operate in our lives and in the Church. Don’t miss it!
Calvary Women – This Tuesday
Ladies, join us at 9:30am at the chapel as Helen continues teaching through the Book of Galatians. It’s a wonderful time of fellowship and study in God’s Word – bring a friend!
Service Courtesy
If you know you’ll need to leave the service early, please let the ushers know when you arrive so they can seat you at the rear of the church. This helps us minimise distractions during the teaching of God’s Word. Thank you for your help in maintaining a worshipful environment.
Men – Join the Junior Church Team!
Our Junior Church children would love to see more men teaching them God’s Word on Sunday mornings. Please speak with Pastor Nathanael so we can add you to the teaching roster.
“You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” – Deuteronomy 11:19
Wednesday Night Prayer
If you can’t join us in person at 7:30pm for our midweek prayer gathering, we encourage you to gather your family and pray from home. Let’s intercede together wherever we are, united in interceding for the Church!
Helen’s heart
I was preparing for a youth camp my husband had been invited to preach at – scurrying about cleaning, packing ensuring I took all I needed for a 6 month old and young toddlers. I wanted to have all my cloth nappies washed and dried before leaving. I went to hang these on the line, forgetting I had a pan of oil on the stove to deep fry chips for lunch. I returned to a kitchen fire! After ensuring the kids were safe at the neighbour’s house, I did as instructed by the fire brigade and tried to smother the fire – in the process I severely burnt my foot. It was very painful. Nevertheless I went to the camp and was confronted by a “Job’s comforter” who proceeded to tell me of all the reasons I was suffering, the main being some hidden sin in my life. We have all been victim of such a tongue, a problem arises, a testing or trial comes and someone harangues as did Job’s 3 friends. We can learn from how he handled it. Honest words are not painful – Job 6:24. He was willing to listen to objective reasoning. God does have His reasons for allowing trials – to refine or chasten but ultimately to conform us to His image – Romans 8:29. Not all out trials have holy reasons and conclusions, so lets not pretend to know the mind of God. When we see another suffering it might be best to ‘keep our mouths shut’ – a gentle hug, a prayer, a soft “I am here for you,” will display more empathy than an arrogant ‘I know why!’ Blessed is the man who endures trials for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life. – James 1:12
Pastor’s Pen
Most of you know I have served as the honorary Chaplain at the Fremantle Football Club since the year 2000. Sadly, this week we received heartbreaking news. Another young man took his own life—just months after his twin brother, also a former AFL player, had done the same. We learned of this tragedy on Saturday morning, and our prayers and deepest sympathy go out to the Selwood family during this incredibly painful time. I share this with you this morning because I know some among us have experienced similar heartbreak within your own families. Our fallen world is crying out for help and hope as people struggle to navigate life without Christ. But here is the truth: Jesus Christ came to rescue us. We—the Church of Jesus Christ—hold in our hearts and hands the only true cure for broken, aching souls. That cure is not a philosophy or a program. That cure is a Person—our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
I implore you today, if you are a follower of Jesus, to lay aside your own plans and preferences, and in obedience to our Lord, embrace His calling upon your life: Mark 16:15 – “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’” You never know—the very next person you share the gospel with might be someone secretly considering ending their own life. Let’s be faithful. Let’s be ready. Let’s be obedient.
Jesus is the hope. Let’s share Him.
