Daily devotion – Noah and Lot…

“God Knows How to Deliver”

Scripture Reading:
“For if God did not spare the angels who sinned… then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment.”
— 2 Peter 2:4–9

The judgment of God is not a popular subject. Many mock it, deny it, or simply ignore it. But God’s Word reminds us clearly—He has judged before, and He will judge again.

Peter outlines three dramatic historical events to remind us of God’s justice—and His mercy. First, the rebellious angels were cast down. Then the ancient world was wiped out in the flood. And Sodom and Gomorrah were turned to ashes. But in each case, God delivered the righteous—Noah, and later Lot.

Noah was surrounded by disbelief. People lived as though God’s warning was a joke. They laughed, mocked, and carried on with their lives. Jesus said it was “business as usual” right up until the flood came (Luke 17:26–27). No one took Noah seriously—until the rain fell.

In the same way, Lot lived in a city full of wickedness. His soul was “tormented day after day” by the depravity around him (v.8). Yet God reached into that city and pulled him out—just before fire fell from heaven.

These stories are not just ancient history. They are living examples of what is still to come. As 2 Peter 3:14 exhorts, “Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.”

Our Lord has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through Jesus Christ (1 Thess. 5:9). Just as judgment could not fall on Sodom until Lot was out, judgment will not fall on this world until Christ takes His people home.

Yes, judgment is coming. The world may laugh now as it did in Noah’s day. People may be too busy with pleasure, prosperity, and plans to notice the signs. But one day very soon, it will be too late.

Are you ready?
Have you placed your faith in Christ alone for salvation?
Are you living in a way that reflects the hope of His soon return?

God knows how to deliver the godly. Let us trust Him, walk with Him, and be ready when He comes.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your mercy in rescuing those who belong to You. Help me to live each day with eternity in view, with a heart that is prepared and a life that is blameless before You. Thank You that I am not appointed to wrath but to salvation through Jesus Christ. In His name I pray, amen.
