“The Gospel at the Core: Jesus’ Death and Resurrection”

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

Of all the information available to you, and of all the knowledge you possess, what would you suggest is the most important? What would you claim as knowledge to be of ‘first importance’?  In 1 Corinthians 15, the apostle Paul would declare that there is one truth that stands above all others. The most important thing you could ever know is the Gospel—the Good News of Jesus Christ, centred on His death, burial, and resurrection.

As Paul writes to the Corinthians, he reminds them of this truth: “What I received I passed on to you as of first importance” (1 Cor. 15:3). Jesus’ death and resurrection are not just philosophical ideas or good advice; they are the foundation of Christian hope. Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, defeating death, sin, and the enemy.

The resurrection is not just a nice story—it’s the linchpin of the Gospel. A dead saviour saves no one, but a risen Christ offers salvation to all who believe. The resurrection proves that Jesus has power over death, and that means He can fulfill every promise He made.

As you reflect on the resurrection, ask yourself: Have you trusted in this truth, not merely admired it? This gospel is not optional—it is essential for salvation.
