Who’s Lord of Your Wallet?

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

As followers of Jesus, we’re called to surrender every area of life to His Lordship—our relationships, choices, speech, desires, and even… our money. That last one often makes us uncomfortable, not because it’s inherently wrong, but because money is deeply personal. Yet Scripture has a lot to say about it.

In fact, Jesus spoke more about money than He did about heaven or hell. Why? Because money often reveals what’s going on in our hearts. As He said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).

In 1 Corinthians 16:1–4, Paul addresses the Corinthian church with some practical wisdom on giving. Unlike his extended teaching on spiritual gifts, he only spends a few verses here—not because giving is unimportant, but because it’s straightforward. Whether we have a lot or a little, all we have ultimately comes from God. How we gain and how we give are both acts of worship.

God isn’t after your bank account—He’s after your heart. But your wallet often tells the truth about who’s on the throne.

The question is this: Is Jesus Lord over your finances, or just the spiritual parts of your life? Our generosity—whether small or large—is a direct reflection of how much we trust Him.

So ask yourself: Does my use of money reflect God’s grace and provision in my life? Am I giving generously, not from guilt, but from gratitude?
