Daily devotion – Heaven

Overwhelmed by His Grace
Scripture: Revelation 4:1–5

After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”
Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne…
(Revelation 4:1–2)

Do you ever think about Heaven? Not simply what it will look like—though Scripture does give us glimpses—but about who is there?

Every time I think about Heaven, my thoughts go to the Lord Jesus. That I will see Him face to face. That I will hear His voice. But even more than those wonderful things, my heart is overwhelmed by something deeper: I will be in the presence of the One who gave Himself for me.

As we move into chapters 4 and 5 of Revelation in our Sunday studies, my heart is being drawn upward. I feel the awe rising as I think about standing before the throne of God. Surrounding Him will be believers from every tribe and tongue—redeemed, forgiven, clothed in white by grace alone. I will be there… not because I deserve to be, but because of His amazing grace.

The One who sits on the throne is the same who said, “Let there be light.” He spoke galaxies into existence. He sustains all things by His power. Yet I—so unworthy—will be there, because He wanted me there. That truth overwhelms me more the older I grow, knowing I now have fewer years ahead than behind.

And yet… how can so many, week after week, sit under God’s Word and remain unmoved? So casual, so thankless, so unaware of the glory they are being invited into?

This week, as you walk with the Lord, let your heart be captured again by the wonder of His grace. Let the reality of Heaven, and the glory of God’s presence, renew your soul. Perhaps this is the very key that many dry and weary believers are missing—not more effort, but more awe.

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him…”
(Ephesians 1:17)

“…to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
(Ephesians 3:19)

Even the Apostle Paul, who suffered greatly and longed for relief, came to understand the sufficiency of God’s grace:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”…
“For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
(2 Corinthians 12:9–10)

Heaven is real. Grace is amazing. God is glorious.
Let that truth stir your heart again today.
