Daily devotional: When living in a fog.
James 1:5–8
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
There are times in life when it feels as if a heavy fog rests over our hearts and minds—especially when we face important decisions. We read the Bible, we pray, we seek the Lord, and yet the fog doesn’t seem to lift.
What should we do then?
We could blindly take a step forward, but that often leads to regret and trouble. We could give up and do nothing, but that only leaves us stuck, like sinking in quicksand. Neither way brings peace.
The answer is patience—remaining steadfast in seeking the Lord. Sometimes God allows the fog to remain because He is teaching us to grow in faith, learning to lean fully on Him. These moments become opportunities to wrestle with Him in prayer until clarity comes.
Impatience in such times reveals our immaturity and our struggle to fully trust God’s timing. But when we wait, trusting that He will guide us, we demonstrate our faith in His promise to give wisdom generously to those who ask.
Maybe you are in a fog right now, standing at a crossroads with decisions before you. Don’t move in your own strength. Wait until God directs you. He will answer. He will guide. And through this, He will grow your trust in Him.
Prayer:
Lord, when I face decisions and the fog feels heavy, help me to wait on You. Give me wisdom, and teach me to trust You more deeply, knowing You will guide me in Your perfect time. Amen.
