Daily devotion – A joy that is unspeakable!

Pastor Keith   -

Psalm 16:11
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

There are times when I come before the Lord not to ask for anything, not to bring a complaint, nor to cry out for help. Instead, there are moments when my heart is simply overwhelmed with joy—joy in knowing and appreciating the unfailing love of my Heavenly Father, who calls me His child.

It is often like this on a Sunday afternoon. The morning service has ended, the house is quiet, and I sit preparing for the evening service even though I am not preaching. In those quiet pauses, the wonder of God’s love floods my soul, and I am left in awe of His goodness.

The psalmist wrote, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him” (Psalm 34:8). How true that is! I only wish more could experience this same joy—the joy not of asking, but of simply being in His presence.

Too often, our relationship with God is clouded by our own selfish tendencies. We approach Him only when we are in need or in trouble. Yet, like a loving Father, He delights simply in being with His children.

And this is what makes heaven so glorious. There, this joy will no longer be fleeting or bound by moments. It will be unbroken, continual, and eternal.

This is why one of my favourite verses is Exodus 33:11:
“The LORD would speak with Moses face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.”

What intimacy! What nearness! That is what our hearts were made for.

My prayer for you today and this week is that you too would know this unspeakable joy—that you would walk in the reality of God’s marvellous presence, both now and forevermore.
