A Call to Intercede for Our Nation
“Joint Media Release:
The Hon. Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia
Effective today, Sunday 21 September 2025, the Commonwealth of Australia formally recognises the independent and sovereign State of Palestine. In doing so, Australia recognises the long-held aspirations of the people of Palestine to a state of their own. Australia’s recognition, alongside Canada and the United Kingdom, is part of a coordinated international effort to build momentum for a two-state solution, beginning with a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages taken in the atrocities of October 7, 2023.”
Our Prime Minister has set our nation on a collision course with the God of Israel. As Christ’s Church, our mission has never been greater—to intercede for our land and plead for God’s mercy, just as Daniel did for Israel while in captivity in Babylon. The difference is this: Israel had already been judged by God, overrun by the Babylonians, and carried away for seventy years because of their national sin.
What awaits Australia in the coming months and years only God knows. But one thing is clear—our response must mirror that of the early Church in Acts. Despite being under Roman oppression, despite the religious leaders who had arranged for the crucifixion of Jesus, the disciples did not retreat or fall silent. They prayed.
When Peter and John were arrested and commanded not to speak in Jesus’ name (Acts 4:17–18), they boldly replied:
“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:19–20)
But it didn’t end there—the believers gathered, and they prayed. And Scripture records:
“When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31)
Right now, God has placed us—Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour—here in Australia for such a time as this. Like Daniel, James, John, and the early believers, we must not be silent. No matter what our leaders proclaim, no matter how far our nation turns from God, we are here with a divine purpose: to intercede, to proclaim, and to stand boldly for the truth of God’s Word.
Are you ready to be part of the Church whose prayers shake the ground? God has a mission for each of us in this land. The question is—will we rise to the challenge?
