Devotional: Suffering!

Pastor Keith   -

Philippians 2:16–18
“…holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.”

The Word of God, prayer, and suffering are three powerful “tools” God uses in shaping our lives.

Just as electricity must run through a conductor, so the Holy Spirit works through the means God has provided. As I read the Word and pray, I am conformed more into the image of Christ—and as I grow in His likeness, I can expect increasing opposition from the world.

Yet, it is this daily fellowship of His sufferings that draws me back again to the Word and to prayer. Through this continual cycle, God deepens my dependence on Him and strengthens my joy in Him.

If I am to have a submissive mind to the Lord’s will, then the joy of the Lord must accompany it. God’s plan for our lives is to fill us with His power and give us a heart to serve—no matter what we face.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Word that gives life, for the gift of prayer that draws us near, and even for the trials that shape us into Christ’s likeness. Help me to hold fast to Your truth, to rejoice in every season, and to serve You with gladness. May my life, like Paul’s, be a living offering poured out for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
