Daily devotional – The wonder of Silence!

Pastor Keith   -

Ecclesiastes 3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.

There are moments in our walk with God when He invites us into a time of precious silence before His almighty presence.

Our world is filled with noise—everywhere we go there is sound. Many walk, run, or even rest with headphones or earbuds on, surrounded by constant chatter or music. Yet there are rare times, perhaps when we find ourselves in the outback or some isolated place, when all is still—no hum, no voice, only the silence of solitude.

Some of my most treasured moments in the Lord’s presence have been those wrapped in the silence of His holiness, His majesty, and His grace. Solomon, in this verse, speaks within the context of grieving or repentance—times when words fail and the heart speaks only in stillness. Job, too, sat in silence during his deep sorrow.

There is also a profound silence mentioned in the book of Revelation:
Revelation 8:1 – “And when He had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.”
This came just before the sounding of the seven trumpets and the outpouring of God’s judgments—a divine pause, a moment of awe before the unfolding of His power.

Even King David once sat speechless before the Lord when God revealed to him that He would establish his throne forever. Sometimes, the only fitting response to the greatness of God is silence.

This week, will you take time to unplug from the world?
Will you accept God’s gentle invitation to sit quietly in His presence—to rest, reflect, and bathe in the silence of His majesty?

The blessing will be yours.
