When Grace Holds You Fast: Power in Weakness

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

After pleading for his thorn to be removed, Paul received one of the most beautiful answers in Scripture: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Notice what God doesn’t say. He doesn’t promise instant healing, effortless success, or a pain-free life. He promises Himself. Grace — ongoing, daily, always-enough grace.

Paul’s perspective flips completely: “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.” The word “rest” means “to dwell, to pitch a tent over.” God’s presence covers our frailty like a protective canopy. The thorn didn’t disappear — but it lost its power to define him.

That’s the miracle of grace. It doesn’t always change our situation; it changes us within it. It turns pressure into prayer, despair into dependence, and weakness into worship.

Maybe you feel stretched thin — physically, emotionally, or spiritually. You’ve prayed for relief, but heaven seems silent. Listen again to God’s gentle voice: My grace is sufficient. You don’t need to be invincible; you need to be indwelt.

When your strength runs out, Christ’s power runs in. When life feels heavy, grace holds steady.

So stop trying to prove you’re strong enough. Start proving that His grace is. Because the weakest saint resting on divine sufficiency is stronger than the mightiest soul standing alone.

Grace doesn’t just get you through; it shows the world what God can do through you.
