Daily devotion – Words to remember!

John 14:26–27

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” — John 14:26–27

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples as He prepared them for His coming crucifixion, resurrection, and eventual ascension into heaven. He knew the difficult days that lay ahead for them. Yet He also promised that the Holy Spirit — the Helper — would be with them through it all. The Spirit would comfort them, strengthen them, and give them the words to speak when they faced persecution for following Christ.

“He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”

As the disciples recalled Jesus’ teachings and read God’s Word, the Holy Spirit would bring truth and power to their remembrance — bringing the Scriptures alive within them.

King David understood this principle well when he wrote:

“My eyes are awake through the night watches,
That I may meditate on Your word.” — Psalm 119:148
“Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.” — Psalm 119:11

For the Holy Spirit to bring God’s Word to our remembrance, we must first place His Word in our hearts. This means regularly reading and meditating on Scripture — not letting our Bibles gather dust or remain unopened until Sunday. Sadly many don’t even bring them now with them to Church when they do attend.

Many churchgoers today, when given an opportunity to share their faith, find themselves unsure of what to say. The reason often lies in neglecting the daily reading of God’s Word. Without that daily nourishment, their witness becomes weak, and their spiritual direction uncertain.

Let this week be different. Begin a simple, steady habit of reading God’s Word daily. Try opening your Bible each time you sit down to eat — at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Before you go to sleep, read God’s Word, let your final thoughts come from Scripture. As you do, God will fill your heart and mind. He will speak to you, even in the quiet hours of the night, and your life will be transformed.

Jesus said,

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” — Matthew 4:4

Make His Word your daily bread — and you will find His peace, His strength, and His voice guiding you each day.
