Daily devotion – Not the Christmas we had planned!
Matthew 1:18-25
As Christmas approaches, we often imagine a season filled with joy, harmony, and perfect moments with loved ones. Yet, reality can be quite different—gifts may be incomplete, plans may go awry, and misunderstandings can cloud the festive spirit. The first Christmas itself was marked by conflict and confusion, especially for Joseph and Mary.
Joseph, described as a just and righteous man, faced heartbreak when he learned of Mary’s pregnancy. His dreams of a joyful wedding were shattered, and he was left questioning how such a thing could happen to someone who had tried to live faithfully. In his pain, Joseph planned to quietly end the engagement, not wanting to disgrace Mary. He was misunderstood, just as Mary was misunderstood by him.
But the Christmas story offers hope. God intervened in Joseph’s turmoil through an angel, urging him not to be afraid and to trust Mary. Joseph’s willingness to surrender his hurt, show humility, and seek forgiveness allowed him to receive the blessing of the Christmas Child. This act of faith and obedience transformed his conflict into a story of redemption and unity. And that first Christmas changed for Joseph.
Are you carrying misunderstandings or hurts this Christmas?
Like Joseph, are you willing to surrender your pain, seek forgiveness, and trust God’s guidance?
Remember, God can turn even the most troubled situations into moments of grace and restoration.
Lord, in the midst of conflict and misunderstanding, help me to surrender my hurts and trust Your plan. Grant me humility and the courage to seek forgiveness, so that Your peace may fill my heart and home this Christmas. Amen.
Christmas may not always be perfect, but God’s love can shine through our struggles if we choose faith, humility, and forgiveness. Let the Christmas Child—Jesus—bring peace to your heart, no matter the circumstances.
This is the true meaning for Christmas!
