Daily devotion – What now for the Church in Australia?
As we read the news in the days following the Bondi massacre, it is clear that our nation, Australia, is reeling—overwhelmed with grief, rage, fear, and confusion. We are witnessing a people searching for answers in a world that has none. This is the tragic reality of a nation that has walked away from God and now finds itself face to face with the consequences of living in a fallen, sinful world.
At this moment in our history, the Church of Jesus Christ in Australia must respond—now more than ever before. For too long, the Church has often failed to fully occupy its God-given position: proclaiming the Gospel with boldness, standing in intercessory prayer, and demonstrating the transforming power of Christ by being salt and light in a darkened land.
The question before us is urgent and unavoidable:
Will the Church in Australia rise up at this time?
Will God’s people stand and offer true hope and direction—found only in Jesus Christ—to a lost and broken nation?
Only time will tell.
The sun is setting on these Last Days. Storm clouds are gathering—clouds of even greater consequence than those that darkened the beach at Bondi. Scripture is clear: the return of Christ for His Church is closer now than ever before.
The Apostle Paul reminds us:
“Since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. Likewise we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you. Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”
(2 Corinthians 13:3–5)
Our nation does not merely need reform—it needs salvation. And Jesus Christ is THE Saviour.
I pray that God is stirring your heart in these Last Days, calling you to respond like the prophet Isaiah when he heard the voice of the Lord:
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
(Isaiah 6:8)
May we not be silent.
May we not shrink back.
May we be found faithful—ready, willing, and sent.
