Daily devotion – Who or what are you connected or addicted to?
1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing.
John 15:7 – If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
Today we live in a society addicted to its “smart” phones. School children ride their bikes home from primary school with phones in hand. Couples of all ages sit together in coffee shops, yet spend their entire time “together” staring at screens—no conversation needed. People walking anywhere constantly check their phones. It has become an addictive behaviour.
Imagine if instead of holding smart phones, people held Bibles in their hands. A couple sitting in a coffee shop with Bibles open. People everywhere checking God’s Word over and over again.
The two opening verses of today’s devotion describe my walk with God—my constant, daily walk with Him. I am praying continually: asking God for help and wisdom, thanking Him, seeking His forgiveness—24/7.
I am abiding in Him with every breath of my life. I know He keeps my heart beating for His pleasure, and that I exist for His service.
I fully believe this is what God desires for every believer: that we would be constantly connected to Him, continually checking in with Him, and never without Him in our minds or hearts.
Weird, some might say—yes, if that kind of devotion is directed toward an electronic device. But it is a beautiful relationship when one lives in constant abiding with the One who saved us, the One who loved us so much He died for us.
This week, my prayer is that you would be praying without ceasing, abiding in Him, more than you are on your phone.
