From the Pastor’s Pen
Why does death ravage us so deeply? It tears at the heart, and the grief it brings often feels unbearable—something we fear we may not be able to endure. Death confronts us with loss, with a reality that humanity, in all its power and intellect, cannot stop, reverse, or control.
It draws us into moments of despair, into a darkness we may never have known before. In those moments, our frailty is exposed, and our emotions are overwhelmed by a force that feels unstoppable. Death reminds us just how limited we truly are.
Yet how wonderful it is that when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we are not left without hope. In our weakness, we can turn to the Word of God—and there we discover that death’s ultimate power has been broken. When Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day, He removed death’s supreme dominance forever.Though we are still subject to death’s presence in this fallen world, we do not face it alone. We can say with confidence that there is a greater power at work within us when grief strikes. The Apostle Paul declares, “…nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39).And if we must walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we do so held by Christ’s love and guided by His hand. As David wrote, “For You are with me” (Psalm 23:4).
Helen’s Heart Ladies, we commence a New Year of study and growing together in God’s Word. We begin this Tuesday our new study in Ruth, a book that contains a wonderful love story during a dark time in the period of the Judges. We live in trying days today; yet God is at work in His world, getting a bride for His Son and accomplishing His eternal purposes. We will learn to never permit the bad news of man’s sin to rob you of the good news of God’s love and grace. You will see the providence of God at work in the lives of Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz, and you will see another important link in the genealogy of the Saviour. In Ruth 4:17, David is mentioned for the first time in the Bible. See you on Tuesday – by His grace, Helen.
