Daily devotional – Hungry hearts still exist.
Are There People Desiring to Know Christ in Australia in 2026?
There are seasons when we can fall into a chasm of despair, as it appears there is a dearth of souls seeking salvation—people desiring to know God. If we follow our emotions, or allow the media’s view of the world to shape our perspective, it can seem as though no one wants to give their life to Christ in 2026.
Many of us experience this personally. Family members, friends, work colleagues, and even the broader public often appear content to live without God. Yet this feeling is not new. Even the Apostle Paul wrestled with discouragement.
Acts 18:9–10
“Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you… for I have many people in this city.”
Paul could not see them—but God already knew them.
Jeremiah experienced similar despair. Overwhelmed by rejection, he resolved to stop preaching altogether:
Jeremiah 20:9
“Then I said, ‘I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name.’”
Yet the word of the Lord burned within him, and he could not remain silent.
We must remember this timeless truth: God is always at work, even when we cannot see it. When the prophet Habakkuk accused God of inactivity, the Lord responded:
Habakkuk 1:5
“Look among the nations and watch—be utterly astounded!
For I will work a work in your days
Which you would not believe, though it were told you.”
God’s work often unfolds quietly, beneath the surface, beyond human perception.
The Holy Spirit is actively speaking to hearts—bringing conviction, stirring hunger, and drawing people to Christ. Jesus Himself declared:
John 16:7–11
“…When He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
This divine work has never ceased.
Therefore, as the Church, we must be ready and available—ready for the soul who is searching for God yet does not know where to turn. Scripture exhorts us:
Galatians 6:9
“Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
2 Timothy 4:2
“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season…”
In these Last Days, sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit is vital. Though the world may appear indifferent, there are many who are seeking Christ, even now. God knows where they are—and He desires to use His people to lead them home.
Let us not lose heart. Let us stay faithful, watchful, and ready—trusting that the Lord of the harvest is still calling, still saving, and still at work in Australia in 2026.
