Daily Devotion – Speaking a foreign language!

Spiritual Truth Is Spiritually Discerned

In First Epistle to the Corinthians 2:14, we are reminded that the natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God. They seem foolish, even incomprehensible, because spiritual truth must be spiritually discerned.

This explains why sharing the gospel can sometimes feel frustrating. It may seem as though we are speaking a different language. In reality, we are speaking of another realm — the realm of the Spirit.

Before Christ saved us, we too were “natural” in our thinking. But when we trusted in Jesus, something changed. The Spirit of God opened our eyes. We moved from spiritual blindness to spiritual life. Yet even then, we had to grow.

The unbeliever does not understand the Christian because they live in a different sphere. But the Christian understands both — we remember what it was like to be without Christ.

Here is our comfort: the work of salvation belongs to God. In Gospel of John 16:13–14, Jesus promised that the Spirit of truth would guide into all truth and glorify Him. It is the Holy Spirit who awakens the heart, convicts of sin, and reveals Christ in all His glory.

What a sacred moment it is when a sinner realizes:

I am lost.

Christ died for me.

He rose again.

My sins are forgiven through His blood.

That moment is not the result of clever arguments or persuasive speech. It is the gracious work of God.

This is why prayer is essential in evangelism. We are not trying to win debates — we are instruments in the hands of the living God. He supplies the power. He opens the heart. He brings the increase.

Our part is simple: be willing, be faithful, and trust the Spirit to do what only He can do.
