From the Pastor’s Pen
A House of Prayer “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” (Luke 19:46) Many are familiar with the background to this powerful moment—when Jesus drove out those who bought and sold in the Temple. Yet how often do we pause and truly consider His actions and His words, especially as this event took place so close to His crucifixion? It would be easy to dismiss this as something that only applied to the Jews and the Temple in Jerusalem. But to do so is to miss the deeper and personal message. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:16 that we are now the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells within us.What was designed to be a place of prayer had become a marketplace. The sacred had been overtaken by the secular. The holy was crowded out by the noise and business of life.
Is that not a danger for us today?
God desires that we be people of prayer—not those whose lives are consumed only with the cares, pressures, and pursuits of this world. Prayer is not an optional extra; it is our lifeline. It is where we commune with God, draw strength, receive direction, and align our hearts with His will, alongside His Word. If you have ever moved house, you know how easily unnecessary things accumulate over time—items collected, stored, and eventually cluttering what should be a place of order and rest. So it is with our hearts. A careful and honest examination of our lives—our priorities, our schedules, our passions—may reveal that there are things which do not belong. Things that have quietly taken up residence and displaced what matters most. Perhaps, like the Temple, there are tables that need overturning. This Easter season, let us invite the Lord to search our hearts. Let us be willing for Him to cleanse, to reorder, and to restore.
May our lives once again become what they were always meant to be— a house of prayer.

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” John 11:25-26
On that first Easter morning, something happened that had never happened before in the history of the human race – and would never happen again: someone came back from the dead, never to die again.
What difference does that event make? It makes all the difference in the world to us! For one thing, the resurrection proved beyond all doubt that Jesus was who He claimed to be: the Son of God sent from heaven to save us from our sins. Because He rose from the dead, our salvation is secure.
But Jesus’ resurrection also tells us that there is life beyond the grave. This world is not all there is; when we die, we continue to live – either in the place of utter darkness the Bible calls hell or in the place of endless joy the Bible calls heaven. And now Jesus opened the way to heaven for us, by His death and resurrection. Because Jesus rose from the dead, death has been defeated and heaven awaits us. Hallelujah! – Billy Graham
