Daily devotion – Heads buried in the sand.

Calvary Men – don’t forget we meet this Friday at 6:30pm at the chapel!

You’ve likely seen the old cartoon of the ostrich burying its head in the sand when danger approaches. In reality, that’s a myth. Ostriches don’t hide that way—they either run or press themselves low to the ground to avoid detection. Yet the image persists because it speaks to something very real in human nature.

Children sometimes do something similar. They pull the blankets over their heads, thinking they are safe from whatever might be lurking in the dark. It feels like protection—but it’s only an illusion.

In much the same way, our modern world often chooses not to see what is plainly unfolding before our eyes.

As we watch ongoing tensions and conflict involving Iran, Israel, and global powers, much of the deeper issue is overlooked. Instead of grappling with the spiritual and prophetic significance, many are more concerned with rising costs, fuel prices, and economic pressures. The desire for peace is often driven not by a longing for righteousness, but by a longing for comfort.

Yet Scripture reminds us that this kind of indifference is not new.

In Luke 17:26–30, Jesus describes the days of Noah and Lot—times when people carried on with everyday life, unaware or unconcerned about the judgment that was approaching. Life went on as normal… until suddenly it didn’t.

So it will be, Jesus says, at His coming.

The issue is not ignorance of events, but indifference to their meaning. It’s not the ostrich or the child hiding—it’s a world choosing distraction over discernment, comfort over conviction.

But we, as the Church, are called to see clearly.

We are not to bury our heads or close our eyes. We are to watch, to discern, and to understand the times. The pieces are moving. Nations are aligning. God’s Word is unfolding exactly as He said it would.

The question is not whether these things are happening.

The question is—are we awake to them?

Do you see?
