Facing the Same Old Lies with New Strength

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

In the wilderness, Satan came at Jesus with three targeted temptations, each striking at trust in the Father’s provision, protection, and promise.

First: “If You are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.” After forty days of fasting, the attack was on God’s provision. Jesus refused to act independently or take matters into His own hands. Instead, He answered with Scripture: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

Second: On the pinnacle of the temple, Satan twisted Psalm 91 and urged Jesus to test God’s protection by throwing Himself down. Jesus replied, “You shall not put the LORD your God to the test.”

Third: From a high mountain, Satan offered all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus would simply worship him — an easy shortcut around the cross. Jesus answered firmly, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”

Satan still uses the same tactics today. When we’re tired, hungry, exhausted or discouraged, he whispers: God has forgotten you… God won’t protect you… God’s way is too hard — take the shortcut.

But Jesus shows us the way to victory. He didn’t argue or negotiate — He answered every lie with the living Word of God: “It is written.”

When temptation comes, don’t fight in your own strength. Hide God’s Word in your heart. Speak it out loud. Choose obedience over appetite, trust over testing, and worship over shortcuts.

The King who conquered in the wilderness stands ready to help you overcome.

Lord, when the enemy whispers lies, help me answer with Your truth. Teach me to wield the sword of Your Word with confidence and trust Your perfect way. Amen.
