Clothed in Armour for the Battle

Pastor Israel Carmody   -

After Jesus resisted every temptation with Scripture, the devil left Him, and angels came to minister to the One who had refused to feed Himself. The King emerged triumphant from the wilderness (Matt 4:11).

This victory is not just a remarkable story — it is our great comfort and challenge. Temptation is common to every believer, but we are never left to fight alone. The same Jesus who was tested as we are, yet without sin, is a sympathetic High Priest who helps us in our weakness (Heb 4:15-16).

We overcome the same way He did: by knowing and declaring God’s Word. But we don’t stop there. Scripture calls us to put on the full armour of God — truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (Eph 6:10-18) — so we can stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

The Word of God is like a powerful sword. You can admire it, study its history, or listen to others talk about it, but until it becomes your own — memorised, meditated on, and ready in your mouth and heart — it remains like a beautiful blade locked behind museum glass.

Make it your daily priority to read, hide, and use Scripture. When temptation strikes — doubt, fear, compromise, or the pull of the easy way — draw the sword and stand in the strength of the Lord.

The wilderness may feel lonely and exhausting, but it is often the place where God prepares us. Cling to His promises. The King who won the battle there now equips you to stand firm in yours.

Lord Jesus, thank You for conquering temptation so I don’t have to fight alone. Clothe me in Your armour and fill my heart with Your Word. Give me strength to stand victorious today. Amen.
