Daily devotion – Our Shepherd watches over us.

Resting Secure in His Watchful Care

Each day when you wake, God is already there—waiting for you. He has watched over you through the night hours.

“Indeed, He who watches over Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” (Psalm 121:4)

We live in a world where people are desperately seeking security and protection—longing to live without fear. Yet true and lasting security is only found in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

When a person receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, God’s blessings—His riches in glory—are made available to them.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)

Along with salvation, we receive grace and peace. Grace is the unearned favour of God—what we do not deserve. And the peace we receive is twofold: peace with God, because our sins are forgiven, and the peace of God, which steadies our hearts in every circumstance.

Through Christ’s sacrifice, our sins no longer separate us from God. We are seen as righteous in Him.

But there is even more—we are brought into a loving relationship as God’s children:

“You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’” (Romans 8:15)

What a profound truth: we are no longer distant—we are family.

And with that relationship comes an unshakable assurance. No matter what comes our way, nothing can separate us from His love.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come… shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38–39)

So tonight, as you lay your head down to rest, you can do so in peace—knowing He is watching over you.

And when morning comes, He will be there again—ready to guide your steps into a new day.

How blessed it is to walk with God, to be secure in His love, and to rest in His perfect peace.
