Daily devotion – The quiet moments of reflection.
What goes through your mind in those quiet moments when you are alone? You can even be in a crowd, yet there are moments when your mind drifts into deep thought and meditation.
As we grow closer to the Lord, and as we see the signs of the Last Days unfolding before us prior to Christ returning for His Church in the rapture, those quiet moments can become increasingly precious. They reveal where our heart truly rests.
King David prayed:
Psa 19:14
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
David understood that God not only hears our words, but also sees the hidden thoughts and meditations of our heart. What occupies our thoughts often reveals what we treasure most.
As I grow older in the Lord, and hopefully wiser in His ways, I find the Lord continually upon my mind. I find myself seeking His wisdom throughout the day, asking His forgiveness for missed opportunities to pray with someone, encourage a hurting soul, or speak about God’s plan and purpose for their life.
The Holy Spirit also has a way of simplifying our lives as we walk with Christ. Things that once seemed important begin to fade. Time-wasting pursuits lose their attraction, and there grows within us a deeper desire to focus on eternal things.
Php 3:20
“For our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:”
The closer we walk with Jesus, the more we realise this world is not our home. The Lord begins shaping our hearts to become less selfish, less distracted, and more surrendered to His will.
David was described as a man after God’s own heart.
Act 13:22
“…I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”
What continually washes over your thoughts each day? Worry? Fear? Ambition? Regret? Or the goodness, faithfulness, and promises of God?
David often wrote of his overwhelming love and gratitude toward the Lord:
Psa 119:62
“At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.”
Even in the quiet hours of the night, David’s heart turned toward worship and thanksgiving.
This week, may the Holy Spirit minister to you in the quiet moments of your mind. May your thoughts be drawn toward Christ, your heart strengthened in His peace, and your life increasingly shaped by His eternal purposes.
Isa 26:3
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
