Daily devotion – Time to stop and kneel at the Cross of Calvary.

Pastor Keith   -

It’s time to stop, to pause and return to the Cross of Calvary. Yes it is empty now, praise the Lord, as too is the borrowed tomb that Christ was in for just three days.

But as we kneel before this the cross of Calvary where the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ hung voluntarily in our place, taking our sin upon Himself and dying a death and judgment we deserved, I must pause and bow my head in thankfulness.

My words are of thankfulness are not enough and cannot explain what my heart knows Jesus did for me. But I can at least set aside everything else for this time now and say, “Lord You alone are worthy of all praise.” Along with the Apostle Paul I am staggered that Christ has chosen me and saved me from an eternity that should suffer, but instead now He has welcomed me into glory.

To spend eternity in His presence were nothing will distract me from His throne, His glory and His face!

This is Heaven and soon our Lord will call us home – this is reality!

Returning to the Cross

Galatians 6:14 – “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

1 Peter 2:24 – “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”

There comes a time when we need to stop, pause, and return once again to the Cross of Calvary.

Yes, the cross is empty today. Praise the Lord! The borrowed tomb is empty also, for Jesus Christ rose victorious over sin, death, and the grave. Yet there is something deeply precious about kneeling in our hearts before that cross and remembering what took place there.

At Calvary, the Lamb of God willingly took our place. He bore our sin, carried our shame, and endured the judgment that rightly belonged to us. The innocent Son of God suffered so that guilty sinners could be forgiven. The Holy One was forsaken so that we might be accepted. The King of Glory was crowned with thorns so that we might one day wear crowns of righteousness.

When I consider the price that was paid for my salvation, words seem inadequate. No expression of gratitude can fully explain what my heart knows Christ has done for me. Yet I can lay aside the distractions of life, bow my head, and simply say, “Lord, You alone are worthy of all praise, honour, and glory.”

Like the Apostle Paul, I am amazed that Christ would choose me, save me, and rescue me from the eternity that I deserved. Instead of judgment, He has given me mercy. Instead of condemnation, He has given me forgiveness. Instead of separation, He has welcomed me into His family and promised me a home in glory.

Revelation 5:12 – “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honour and glory and blessing!”

One day soon, faith will become sight. We will stand in His presence where nothing will distract us from His throne, His glory, and His face. There will be no sorrow, no pain, no temptation, and no tears—only the everlasting joy of being with Jesus Christ forever.

That is Heaven. That is our blessed hope. That is the reality awaiting every believer.

And until that day, may we never move far from the Cross, for it is there that we remember the immeasurable love of God and the greatness of our salvation.

Will you stop and pause….kneel and find yourself at the Cross once more?

Father, thank You for the Cross of Calvary and for the precious gift of Your Son. Thank You that Jesus willingly took my place, bore my sin, and paid my debt in full. Help me never to lose the wonder of Your grace or the joy of my salvation. Keep my eyes fixed upon Christ and my heart longing for the day when I will see Him face to face. Until then, may my life bring glory to the One who loved me and gave Himself for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
