Daily devotion – The care of our little ones.
God’s Care of Our Children
It is always a privilege to be part of a baby dedication, especially when it involves one of your precious grandchildren. To see those little ones with their father, mother, and siblings, as we call upon God to watch over them and bring His blessing upon their lives, is a precious sight indeed.
Yet there is also the sobering reality that these innocent little ones must grow up in a world that has been scarred by sin. Each of them will face trials, temptations, disappointments, and challenges of their own.
Trusting our children into God’s care is something every believer must learn to do. At times, we can hesitate, mistakenly believing that we alone can protect them. I remember discovering this very attitude in my own heart.
As Helen and I considered serving on the mission field, I found myself willing to trust God with my own life and safety, yet hesitant to place our children in situations where they might face hardship or danger. The Lord lovingly confronted me about my foolish thinking. He challenged my faith and trust in Him. Was I willing to trust Him to care for Helen and me, but unwilling to trust Him with our children?
I was deeply ashamed. I repented before the Lord and sought His forgiveness for being reluctant to place my children fully into His care.
The truth is that every day our children go about their lives, attend school, play with friends, travel, and face situations beyond our control. We cannot physically watch over them every minute of every day. But thankfully, God can. He is with them every moment, sustaining their very lives and providing every breath they take.
Jesus reminds us that when we cling tightly to something out of fear and refuse to entrust it to Him, we ultimately lose sight of His blessing. But when we place our lives and our loved ones into His hands, we discover His faithful care.
“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?” (Luke 9:24-25)
By prayer, faith, and trust, place your precious children into God’s care each day. There is no safer place for them to be than in the hands of the Lord.
Jesus declared:
“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:28)
Today, entrust your children, grandchildren, and all those you love to the Lord. His hands are far stronger than ours, His wisdom far greater than ours, and His love for them even deeper than we can comprehend.
