Who Do You See?
Matthew 9:27–34
Two blind men followed Jesus, crying out for mercy. Before healing them, Jesus asked one question: “Do you believe I am able to do this?” Their answer was simply, “Yes, Lord.” That was enough.
Soon after, Jesus cast a demon out of a man who couldn’t speak, and he spoke. The crowd marvelled that nothing like this had ever been seen in Israel. But the religious leaders, watching the same miracle, drew the opposite conclusion: He must be working for the devil.
Same moment. Same evidence. Two completely different responses. The difference was never the facts in front of them — it was the condition of the heart receiving those facts.
That’s still true. Two people can sit through the same sermon, read the same passage, watch the same answered prayer, and walk away in entirely different directions — one toward wonder, one toward suspicion. The blind men, who had every reason to doubt, simply believed. The religious leaders, who had every advantage of knowledge, refused to.
Jesus’ question to the blind men is still the one that matters most: do you believe? Not in theory, but that Jesus is God, the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of David (vs 27).
